How to Set Up a Portable Pickleball Court in 30 Minutes

One of the best things about a portable pickleball court is how quickly it goes from a rolled-up bundle to a full regulation court. With a little prep, most people have a PortaCourts setup game-ready in about 30 minutes — no tools, no contractors, and no permanent installation. Here's how to do it.

1. Choose the right surface

A portable pickleball court needs a flat, hard surface. Driveways, parking lots, gym floors, warehouse floors, and existing sport courts all work well. Look for a spot that is reasonably level and clear of large cracks, gravel, and debris. You'll want the regulation 20 × 44 ft playing area plus extra room around the lines for safe movement.

2. Clean and prep the area

Sweep away dirt, leaves, and loose stones so the surface panels lie flat and the tape adheres cleanly. A quick pass with a push broom is usually all it takes.

3. Roll out the court surface

Unroll the acrylic surface panels and position them to form the full court. The nano-granule acrylic surface delivers a 90%+ ball rebound that matches permanent courts, so play feels true from the first serve.

4. Connect the seams

Join the panels edge-to-edge and secure the seams so the court stays flat and seamless underfoot. Take a moment to smooth out any ripples before play.

5. Set up the net and start playing

Assemble the portable net system at center court, double-check your lines, and you're ready to play. When you're done, the whole court rolls back up for easy storage in a garage, closet, or trailer.

What you'll need

  • A flat, hard surface at least the size of your court footprint
  • A push broom to clear debris
  • Your PortaCourts surface panels, seam tape, and net system
  • About 30 minutes and a second set of hands for larger courts
